The capital of great Britain is London.

Time:
The time in London is 2 hours behind Kyiv.

Holidays and weekends:
The first of January – is the New Year, In March – Easter, Holy Friday, Easter Monday. The first Monday of May – May holiday, the last Monday of May – The Spring Holiday, the last Monday of August – The official August Day Off, the  25th  of December – Christmas, the 26th of December – The Day of Christmas presents, the second day of the Christmas, the 27th of December – the Christmas Day Off.

National particularities:
An Englishman is very calm and polite, more or less communicable in dependence of the region, constantly shy and respectable to the others. The main peculiarities of Englishmen are: scrupulous, self-esteem, businesslike character, but the main trait – independence. When a person speaks too much, it is assessed as bad manner and sometimes rude. Punctuality and accuracy – are also main distinctive features of Englishmen. Englishmen can be counted on!
Scottish people are famous for their amiability and hospitality and try to carry it through many generations. In the south-west the peasants are very patient and realistic, and the citizens very kind-hearted. In Highland live only true hardworking people. The English humour is hard to understand.
 
Climate:
The climate of the country is determined by the ocean and by the seas; its mildness and humidity are due to the Gulf Stream. In winter the temperature falls below zero very rarely, in summer it’s usually warm, but it rains very often.
 
Language: 
The language is English.

Currency: The national currency – English pound, 1 pound – 100 pence (the rate is ranging from 1 GBP= 1.2 – 1.5 USD). In use there are the following currency notes: 1, 5, 10, 15 pence. The entrance and outflow of the currency is not limited. 

The particularity of the customs:
It is permitted duty free importation of 200 pcs. of cigarettes or 50 pcs. cigars or 250 g of tobacco.  It is permitted to import 1 l of strong stimulants (with solidity not stronger 22`) or 2 l  - with solidity weaker than 22`, of souvenirs and presents on the amount of 28 pounds. It is forbidden to import living birds and their eggs, also all representatives of flora and fauna. It`s recommended to take the recipe from your doctor, which proves the necessity of this pills. After arriving at the airport, you have to take a hand truck and to move to the customs control. You don’t pay for using of these trucks.

Transport:
 Great Britain is famous of its left driving. The intercity bus – is the cheapest way to move within the country. The card “Brit express card” is sold in the airports. They are valid in the period of 30 days. The passenger gets the discount 30%. If you want to go by train you have to buy the ticket “Brit-Rail”. The ticket gives you the opportunity to make a lot of tours in the period of the appointed term (4, 8, 15, 22 or 30 days). Elderly people (who are over 60) and young people (from 16 - 25) have the right for discount. Kids (from 4 - 16) pay only the half charge of the ticket for adults. Kids under 4 have the right to travel for free. Hitch-hiking is not welcome in Great Britain. The quickest and the cheapest way of transport is the metro. The trains go every 3-5 minutes. The cost depends on the region (80 pence for the 1 zone). The cheapest way – is a bus ( one-way ticket into the zones1-2 costs 2.5 pounds)

  If you hire a car, try not to enter and leave London in the rush hour (8.00 – 8.30 and 17.30 – 19.00), especially if you don’t know the city well. The approximate prices in London are: from 54$ a day and 176$ per week for a car of “economy” class. The conditioner and the unlimited mileage are produced when you hire a car of a big size with automatic transmission. The approximate prices in Edinburg – from $24 a day and $99 per week for a car of “economy” class, the mileage is unlimited. The tax fees are not included – 17.5 %. The parking is very expensive in London, go straight I the direction of West-end (the centre), the directions are pointed out there. We recommend to rent a car if you have the intention to go to the village: in the city it will be a burden. The condition of the British roads is great! In the cities and suburbs the road are usually heavy. If you drive being drunk you will be punished.  
 
Electricity:
The voltage is 240 volt. If you use electro razor, hairdryer you have to take adapting pipe with you.
 
The connection:
All the mobile phone connection is paid. The cheapest way to make a call is to phone form the coin-box. You should use 10 pence coins for or the telephone cards. They cost 2-10 pounds.

Markets:
 The markets are open from 9.00 till 17.30. All the goods in the markets are taxed in the amount of 17.5 %. If you made a purchase on 100 pounds and more, then in the period of tree month when you cross the border you can repayment of the money in the amount 11% from the whole price of the good. You have to take the bill in the market. In any market wants to make bargain it hang out the tablet Buy one, get one free". 
 
Museums, galleries: 
Museums are open from 10.00 till 18.00. On Sunday they are open from 14.00 till 17.00. There exist low fare tickets “family tickets” for 2 adults and two kids. You should take the guide when you want to visit a museum. These guides have a blue sign on the jacket.

Night lodging:
Except hotels, which are qualified, in England you can rent a room under the system “Bed and breakfast” where you are provided with a bed and a breakfast, and the breakfast will be a typical English.

Tips:
 In many cafes, restaurants the payment for service is included into the bill and is 10-155 from the total order. If not – then you have to give the tips in the amount of this sum. For taxi drivers you should give the tips in the amount of 10% from the total sum, the service of the carrier - from 70 pence and depend on the category of the hotel. The hotel worker you give the tips as you wish. In the theatres and filling stations people don’t usually give tips.
